St. Peter Lutheran Nursery School

We believe that each student has great worth as a child of God.  Our intent is to provide experiences that will allow our students to safely grow and learn in a loving, supportive and nurturing environment.  At St. Peter Lutheran Nursery School, students learn of God's love for them.  They are exposed to Christian beliefs and values using songs, stories, and prayer.

We also believe that young children learn best through hands-on experiences and by following their own interests.  In particular, they are fascinated by the natural world.  At our school, children explore nature through field trips to places such as Washington Crossing Park, Stony Brook Millstone Watershed, and Howell Living History Farm.  They engage in discovery activities such as observing insects, tending plants, and using simple machines.  Our curriculum offers many opportunities for students to learn more about the world around them.

At St. Peter Lutheran Nursery School, we value play and allocate plenty of time for it.  Pretend play is not only an enjoyable experience for young children, but it aids in their development in many areas: cognitive (abstract thinking and problem solving), social, emotional, language and motor skills.  Imaginative play is encouraged through teacher interaction and special pretend centers

Our language-rich environment supports children's learning. We enjoy reading both new and familiar books, sharing our insights, and retelling stories in various ways. Students' efforts to write are encouraged through student initiated writing at various interest centers and through the gentle guidance of our staff. Our students learn math in a fun and natural way, through games, routines, and incidental learning.
